STAR Letter from Valerie Beale - Sep 06

Dear Ultra-Fit,
Having subscribed to Ultra-Fit for many years I have significantly improved my knowledge of health and fitness, gaining maximum results from my regular workouts at the gym plus running.
This year after 31 years working in Local Government I took voluntary redundancy and enjoyed the summer off to consider what I truly wanted to do in the future.
Following my passion in health and fitness, I researched various training courses and after reading in Ultra-Fit of the Australian Institute of Fitness decided to investigate further and am pleased to say that in 2 days time I fly to Spain for 6 weeks to qualify as a Master Trainer.
Why I think it is of interest to you and your many readers is that I am 53 years of age, not the typical young, tall, leggy blonde but one who is proud of being fit, healthy & of reasonable shape. Today my 53rd birthday I ran 10 miles (ok, an average 10 minute mile). I do resistance work 3 x a week and similar amount of cardio. 4 years ago inspired by your many Concept 11 articles I entered the BIRC and won a bronze award in my category. Poor James Cracknell had to almost kneel to put my medal around my neck at 5’1”. The same year but previous month completed the Dublin marathon…… the first & probably the last!
I retrieved from the attic my large pile of old Ultra-Fit copies and spent the past month re-reading them plus additional reading on anatomy and physiology I feel well prepared for my course. You really present some great articles. I plan to keep a diary whilst over there and will report on my return the results of this new adventure.
A big thank you for supporting my training over the years, inspiring me to push to my limits and now guiding me through the biggest change in my life.
Where would I be without you?
In sincere gratitude,
Valerie

Ps. I enclose a photo taken after my 10m run, not bad for a 53yr old!
